National Infocomm Club
The Infocomm Clubs is a programme launched on 17 November 2005 for primary, secondary school and Junior College students to participate as a co-curricular activity (CCA) in schools, aligned with the MOE's Leadership, Enrichment, Achievement, Participation and Service (LEAPS) framework to acquire infocomm skills and to cultivate leadership and entrepreneurship capabilities at an early age. It is an initiative by IDA supported by MOE and in collaboration with key industry partners.
The Infocomm Clubs aims to excite students in Infocomm, by allowing students to learn new skills and appreciate Infocomm in a fun, meaningful way. The clubs in each school will have programmes that cover one or more focus areas such as digital media, mobile technologies, software development, security & networking and games development.
The objectives of the Infocomm Clubs Programme are:
a. Keep students excited about the possibilities of infocomm in a fun way;
b. Expand students' creative and entrepreneurial spirit through application of infocomm in school and society;
c. Extend to the infocomm industry partners so that private sector can play a proactive role in developing the youths in schools.
Through the clubs activities, students can appreciate technologies better, and creatively apply their skills to communicate ideas and use them in their school project work. The clubs can also be a supplementary resource for teachers to enhance the teaching and learning experience.
The School of InfoComm Technology, together with Learning Edvantage (LEAD), has designed an exciting programme that introduces students into the world of 3D modeling and animation. Entitled the “ART of 3D MODELLING & ANIMATION”, this digital 3D course is specially designed for secondary students, covering the various aspects of Drawing, 2D animation and 3D animation.
Students will get to develop their drawing skills and creative expressions; learn how to put their imagination down on paper. They will also learn the various visualising and drawing techniques, drawing and brainstorming concepts; from pencil sketches, 2D drawings to 3D rendering.
The programme also focuses on animation basics, 3D character modelling & animation, cinematography and video techniques where students are taught how to use a 3D software tool for modeling, texturing, and creating models for animation. The students will be designing 3D environments and animate the character(s).
