eGarage

The eGarage is our Infocomm technology incubator to nurture creativity and innovation amongst our students through the eco-partnership of students, staff and industry partners.

It started off as a strategic partnership between our school and Hewlett-Packard (HP) in Feb 2002. Today, eGarage has grown to a strong alliance of industry partnership.

The eGarage houses the following facilities:
- a Development Lab,
- an Infocomm Showcase,
- a Living Lab and
- a Network Centre.

Inside the Development Lab, our students undertake projects using leading-edge technologies with staff and industry mentorship. It is also the place where innovative ideas are incubated, developed, piloted and commercialized.

We recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to setup a RFID Hospitality Management Systems (RHyMeS) Centre. The RHyMeS Centre intends to use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and complementary technologies to develop a suite of services and applications for the lifestyle and hospitality management sectors.

The industry partners involved in this collaboration with the School of ICT are Sun Microsystems, Symbol Technologies, and the Millennium & Copthorne International Limited. These partners will be providing the hardware, software and domain knowledge to enable ICT staff and students to develop creative and innovative applications for the hospitality industry.

The Infocomm Showcase is for exhibiting innovative projects, emerging technologies and latest infocomm products from the industry. This allows our students and staff to keep abreast of latest technology developments.

To promote entrepreneurship, we also provide two carts for our students to use if they wish to try their hands on an IT business while at ICT.

The Living Lab serves as an extension to the Development Lab where technology exploration and sharing is further enhanced via technology seminars, talks and training workshops.

Besides the technical stuff, the Living Lab is also used to support student development activities. For example, our ICT Student Council uses it to conduct meetings, to plan and organize events for ICT students.

The Network Centre is a live operational 24-hour network server centre that supports the IT infrastructure of the School. This is also a place where our lecturers explain the networking concepts.

It features an “open concept” design to facilitate educational tours for students and visitors.
